Madame de Rayne is the second wine of Chateau Rayne Vigneau, the magnificent First Growth Sauternes producer. The wine has an unctuous and immediately appealing nose of exotic tropical fruit, honey, stone fruit, Asian spice and sweet vanilla. Like all great dessert wines, the rich sweet fruit is perfectly balanced with fresh acidity. The result is an elegant, powerful, rich yet clean and exhilarating sweet wine. It’s a delicious, decadent treat with dessert and a cheese board, especially blue cheeses.
Chateau Rayne Vigneau is a magnificent Sauternes estate located just outside the village of Bommes, right in the heart of sweet wine heaven. Mixed fortunes during the 1900s led to the vineyards becoming rather run down and it was not until it was bought by the Credit Agricole in 2004, who put significant investment in, that those fortunes were turned. The wines are now firmly back amongst the finest First Growths of Sauternes. The vineyards are amongst the finest in the area with a high elevation, perfect for drainage and it’s said that in time, managed correctly, these wines will only get better.
