Chateau Lagrange 2016 St-Julien
A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot, the 2016 Lagrange explodes with notes of blueberries, blackcurrant, chocolate and cherries with an earthy, herbaceous, liquorice, floral undertone. This is a full bodied Bordeaux classic with juicy fruit, silky texture and a long spicy finish.
Originally one of the largest estates in the region in the mid-19th Century, Lagrange saw significant reductions in their vineyard area as plots were sold off to other Chateaux to cover old debts. In 1983, the remaining vineyards and estate were purchased by the Japanese company, Suntory, which began to invest heavily in the Chateau's renovation and modernisation, and new grape varieties Petit Verdot (introduced in 1988), along with white varieties were added (from 1996). The wines quality and reputation began to improve significantly, culminating in a number of exceptional vintages since the year 2000.
