Another cracking vintage, despite the challenging conditions, yields remain healthy at a relatively robust 40 hl/ha. The blend (58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc) which has a higher proportion of Merlot than usual, shines through with pure, fresh notes of sloeberry. On the palate, the oak handling is balanced and well-integrated, without overpowering the fruit. The finish offers a delightful twist of bitter cherry, adding both complexity and freshness to this elegant, well-crafted wine.

Chateau Branaire-Ducru, which was classified as a fourth growth in 1855, consistently produces pure, classic Saint-Julien wines. The estate, which was acquired by the Maroteaux family in 1988, has seen significant investment in both the vineyard and the winery over the years. The late Patrick Maroteaux, who tragically passed away in 2017, was widely respected in the wine world, having served as president of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux and the Saint-Julien appellation. His son, François-Xavier, has now taken the helm, continuing his father's esteemed legacy.

Superstar consultant Eric Boissenot, who advises many of the Left Bank’s top estates, including the Médoc’s four first growths, lends his expertise to Chateau Branaire-Ducru, ensuring the estate remains at the forefront of Bordeaux excellence.
