The Foundry Viognier 2022

The Foundry Viognier is an exotic and expressive wine with typical stone fruit and apricot flavours. It is fresh as a daisy and a lovely mineral note running through it which is in perfect balance with the fruit. The grapes come from a single vineyard, South Westerly slope about 6km from False Bay. It enjoys cool maritime breezes which moderate the heat in the vineyard which is on granite-clay loams.

The Foundry is one of South Africa’s most exiting wineries. It was established in 2001 by Chris Williams and James Reid. Chris combined his work at the Foundry between 2004 and 2019 with his full time job as cellar master at Meerlust Estate where he was making some of South Africa’s finest wines. The Foundry is now based at James’s family farm at Paardeberg at Staart and is Chris’s main focus now. Fruit is sourced from a variety of excellent vineyards which Chris has long term contracts with. Some are just for specific rows within a vineyard such is Chris’s desire to source the finest possible fruit. These wines will just keep getting better.
