Rioja Gran Reserva 'Gran Bohedal' Bodegas Bohedal 2014
Bodegas Bohedal Gran Reserva is a fine example of the Gran Reserva style. The wine is made from 100% Tempranillo and aged in a combination of American, French and Romanian oak barrels for 2 years before being left to age in the winery for a further 3 years before release. The extended barrel and bottle aging produces a finely complex wine with great structure and fine oak flavours of tobacco, leather, sweet spice and savoury notes. The oak notes are perfectly balanced with the dark red and black fruit notes. This is a fine wine at a very humble price and only a handful available.
Bodegas Bohedal is a small family winery based in Cuzcurrita del Río Tirón, 10 km from Haro, in the heart of La Rioja Alta. The first vines were planted by great granddad Pepe in 1917 and today his great grandchildren, Leire and Elisa, aided by their father run this superb operation. There is no delusion of grandeur at Bohedal despite the wines receiving fantastic reviews and awards. This is a family operation and there is a belief that their wines are meant to be drunk, enjoyed and loved at any time.
