Gruner Veltliner Reserve 'In der Schablau' Ingrid Groiss 2021
A 100% Gruner Veltliner from Ingrid Groiss which comes from a single vineyard called 'In der Schablau' which is made up of 50 year old vines on a limestone rich, conglomerate soil. The wine has immense depth of flavour and an effortless, elegant feel to it. The nose is complex and has a mixture of citrus fruits, pears, quince, tobacco and grapefruit. On the palate it is tight and powerful with lively acidity and elegant spiciness that keeps going through a long finish. Aged for 11 months on its lees.
Describing herself as passionate, emotional and determined pretty much says it all about Ingrid and are the sort of character traits I’d expect to find in a young wine maker who modernised their parent’s winery. Having lived the corporate life with Coca-Cola in her younger years Ingrid returned to her wine making roots in Weinviertel and set about producing fantastic wines from the vineyards her gran had planted some 50 years ago. Ingrid’s wine have a great purity to them and the complexity off her Gruner Veltliners is quite amazing. The wines are all certified organic since the 2019 vintage and they get better with every vintage. It’s a real pleasure to work with Ingrid’s wines.
