Gavi Casa Ernesto 2023
Gavi Casas Ernesto is a mighty fine example of the Cortese grape, with wonderful aromatics, white peach, cut flowers, stone fruit flavours and texture backed up with a delicious mineral finish. It is a brilliant example of this quintessentially Italian white wine and fantastic with light meals of casual sipping.
Picollo Ernesto is a 16-hectare estate which sits in the prestigious Rovereto commune of Gavi and is planted exclusively with the Cortese grape. The terroir here in the rolling hills is perfect for the Cortese grape with excellent sun exposure and a more Mediterranean climate than the northern part of Piedmont. The estate was founded in 1945 by Lorenzo Picollo. The winery was passed on to Lorenzo’s son, Ernesto and is now run by his grandson, Gianlorenzo. Over the past 3 generations, the Picollo boys have mastered the Cortese grape, introduced green harvesting to reduce yields which intensifies the fruit flavour, adopted organic viniculture and fully modernised the winery.
