Chateau du Tertre 2018 Margaux
The 2018 Château du Tertre is just coming into its drinking window. Medium to deep garnet-purple in colour, it opens with an expressive bouquet of stewed black plums, kirsch, and black raspberries, layered with nuances of dried Provençal herbs, tobacco leaf, and cedar chest. The medium-bodied palate is generous with flavours of red and black fruit preserves, supported by a soft, approachable texture and vibrant freshness. The finish is lifted by a gentle herbal note, adding complexity and elegance.
With roots stretching back to the 12th century, Château du Tertre is a historic Margaux estate with a prestigious pedigree. Its 50 hectares of vineyards are ideally located on one of the highest hills in the Margaux commune—Tertre meaning "knoll" in French. The estate shares borders with esteemed neighbours such as Cantenac-Brown and Brane-Cantenac to the north, and Giscours to the east.
In 2021, the Albada Jelgersma family sold the property to a French institutional investor. Today, it is managed by the Helfrich family, part of Les Grands Chais de France, ensuring a new chapter in the estate’s long and storied legacy.
