Chateau du Domaine de l'Eglise 2020 Pomerol
Like many top Pomerol estates, this is a small property, spanning less than 7 hectares. It is owned by the Castéja family—also proprietors of Châteaux Batailley and Trotte Vieille — and has recently benefited from some fresh attention. The vineyard lies near some of the appellation’s most prestigious names, on the northern edge of Pomerol’s central plateau, with vines now averaging around 30 years of age. Quality has been on a steady rise, and the 2020 vintage was a standout success. The blend is composed of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. In the glass, it shows a deep, glinting purple hue with vibrant, lifted aromatics. The palate offers bright black and red fruit with complex tertiary notes throughout, smooth, rounded tannins, and an impressive length.
