The 2009 Lafaurie Peyraguey is a mid-golden wine with beautiful honey, apricot, barley sugar and orange zest flavours on the nose. There is great harmony to the wine with delicate oak flavours, spice and rich sweetness coming through on the palate. It is an absolute delight with a cheese board.
Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraguey is an old 36-hectare estate just outside the village of Bommes in the heart of the Sauternes region. Part of the chateau (Maisons Rouges) was a Roman staging post and parts of the structure date back to the 13th century (They do not build them like they used to!). The estate is now owned by the Suez company and following a renovation in the early 2000’s it is now a small estate with a 13-bedroom hotel. Michel Laporte and now his son Yannick have been wine makers here since the early 80’s and the wines, even in challenging vintages, have always been effortless and magical. They have a real understanding of Sauternes and are one of the regions most consistent producers.
