Atamisque 'Serbal' Malbec 2023
Atamisque ‘Serbal’ Malbec is made from grapes planted high up in Mendoza’s Uco Valley. The wine is unoaked so the pure, crunchy red fruit shines through on the nose along with floral touches and darker plum notes. It is savoury and rich on the palate but fresh as a daisy and all about the fresh berry fruit rather than heavier oak notes. This is a Malbec of great refinement, class and joy!
Bodega Atamisque is located within the district of San Jose in Tupungato in Argentina’s Uco Valley. The winery, which also encompasses a golf course, guest accommodation, a tasty restaurant and a trout farm, is owned by Frenchman John Du Monceau and his wife Chantal, whose grandfather was a winemaker in Burgundy. The couple’s French elegance shines through in the wines which all have great purity, finesse and fruit character, especially the Serbal range, which is unoaked and solely focused on bright, vibrant fruit flavours. Malbec is the obvious star, but the Cabernet Franc is one of the finest examples we’ve tasted. They have no desire to be a big winery and believe in quality over quantity which is why they only use fruit from their own estate owned vineyards.
