Aniello 006 Merlot is a cracking wine with attractive dark fruit, blueberries, plums and blackcurrants. It is soft and luscious without being overpowering or one dimensional (A common Merlot fault) and finishes with lovely oak notes, silky tannins and most importantly, freshness. The wine spends 12 months in French oak and is a delicious sipping wine or perfect with a big steak.

Aniello is a relatively small and new venture headed up by Maria Cruz de Angelis and super talented young wine maker Eugenia Ferrera. The winery, originally built in 1927, has been completely renovated and restored and the vineyards still contain pre-phylloxera Malbec vines which contribute an extra dimension to these amazing wines. The winery is situated near the little town of Mainque in the Upper Rio Negro Valley and has a special energy about it. Mendoza Malbec is all the rage but here in the greener region of Patagonia there is a youthfulness and freshness about the people and the wines. They do not live in the shadow of the Andes and Mendoza but have carved out a unique expression which is the modern face of Argentinean wine.
