Vilafonte Seriously Old Dirt is a Cabernet Sauvignon dominated blend that offers that fantastic balance between warm, ripe, glossy fruit flavours and fresh elegance and balance that South Africa is so good at. Classic notes dominate with blackberry, plum and dark bramble fruit flavours along with vanilla, tobacco and sweet spices. It is an incredibly polished and precise wine which delivers immediate appeal.
Vilafonte was formed in 1996 by Mike Ratcliffe, a leader of the South African wine industry, along with two Californian legends – Zelma Long and Dr Phil Freese. Both Zelma and Phil had worked with Robert Mondavi, Zelma was chief winemaker and Phil planted the first vineyards for Opus one. Together then had the vision to create an iconic South African wine (That hopefully had some quality to go with the price).
