Tupinier Bautista Mercurey 1er Cru 'Clos du Roy' 2021
Mercurey 1er Cru ‘Clos du Roy’ is Tupinier Bautista’s most prized vineyard and one that produces a Pinot Noir of great subtlety and delicate elegance. It is a harmonious wine with deep red fruit, blackcurrant and rich dark cherry. The balance of smoky oak is perfect and gives the wine depth and complexity with almost Asian type spices.
Domaine Tupinier Bautista is an amazing 11-hectare estate based in the small hamlet of Touches in Burgundy’s Cote Chalonnaise. The domaine is run today by Manu Bautista who succeeded his stepfather in 1997. The family can trace their vine growing roots back to 1770 and the next generation is already in good hands with Manu’s nephew, Anthony, who recently joined his uncle at the domaine. Although the estate has always produced good wines, Manu’s arrival signalled a big step towards modernising the whole estate. A new winery was built in 2016 which provides state of the art, modern wine making equipment. Manu’s attention to detail and desire to get his hands dirty in the vineyards results in grapes that are healthy and in top condition each year. Picking is a long and laborious task, but Manu insists on perfectly ripe grapes. Everything is geared towards quality wine and the results speak for themselves. The wines are always powerful, ripe and packed with layers of fruit that drink well in their youth and age superbly.
