Saumur Champigny Lieu Dit 'Les Villaises' Caves de Saumur 2021

Saumur Champigny Lieu-dit ‘Les Villaises’ is a beautiful 100% Cabernet Franc from Saumur Champigny in the Loire Valley. A lieu-dit is a named place or in this case a single vineyard with a unique character. A medium bodied wine with an extremely inviting nose of crunchy red fruits - strawberries and raspberries, followed by fresh crème de cassis flavours and sweet spice. It would pair perfectly with charcuterie, cheese boards or sausage dishes and light meals.

The Caves de Saumur is an incredibly forward thinking, modern and quality conscious co-operative which was formed in 1947 and now has around 40 growers. The cave puts a huge emphasis on sustainability with all its growers signing up to a charter with the aim of preserving biodiversity and water resources. The whites are based around Chenin Blanc and the reds focus on Cabernet Franc. They are two of the most underrated and overlooked grape varieties in the world and here they produce characterful and joyful wines at humble prices.
