Brother and sister Mathilde and Vincent run this lovely estate which is located within the village of Montigny which lies 20km’s south west of Sancerre in the far south west of the Sancerre appellation. The 23 hectare Domaine was started from just one hectare by Cécile and Henry Natter, Mathilde and Vincent’s parents, in 1973.

It’s not the most fashionable part of Sancerre and is more famous for grain production but the predominance of ‘Terres Blanches’ or Kimmeridgian Marls is perfect for making a more powerful expression of Sancerre. The vines all have a south or south eastern exposure at an altitude of 350 meters and flourish in the continental climate. Chemical fertilisers have never been used and organic methods were favoured from the beginning in 1974.

The Sancerre Blanc is matured in large, old oak barrels for 6 months which gives the wine a lovely richness and extra body without any real oak flavour. The wine is immediately impressive and delivers loads of citrus, stone fruit, blackcurrant leaf along with typical green fruit and fresh mineral notes. It’s defined by its texture, roundness in the palate and persistent length.
