Ramos Pinto Late Bottled Vintage 2018
Ramos Pinto Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) is a traditional unfiltered port with lovely fresh fruit aromas of red fruit, cherry, raspberry and darker, black plum notes. The oak flavours are subtle and compliment the fruit beautifully, with toffee and dark chocolate along with fresher herbal notes. It is a pretty, attractive style of LBV with charm rather than power.
Ramos Pinto is famed for both its aged Tawny ports and innovative approach. Although now owned by Champagne Louis Roederer, it is Ana Rosas, a descendant of Adriano and Antonio Ramos Pinto, the founding brothers, who runs the house. Ana took over from Joao Nicolau de Almeida, her cousin, as master blender in 2015. Joao along with his uncle, Jorge Ramos Pinto Rosas, have done extensive research into grape varieties and vineyard selection through the years. It was this dynamic due who identified the best grape varieties for port production, a blueprint which is now used for almost all new vineyard plantings. Their research led them to Quinta da Ervamoira, which is one of the few large vineyards in the area to be terrace-free. The vines are planted vertically which is unique to the area.
