Pago Florentino is a fantastic wine made from 100% Tempranillo at Bodegas Solana which is located outside the town of Malagon, just north of Ciudad Real in Spain’s La Mancha region. The winery is owned by legendary Ribera del Duero producer Bodegas Arzuaga and is classified as a Vinos de Pago. This is essentially a classification for the winery and its vineyards rather than the region which it is located in. There are currently only 20 of them in Spain. The local name for Tempranillo here is Cencibel and it performs particularly well here in a unique microclimate that is protected by mountains to the north and two large lagoons to the south. The wine has typical dark red fruit notes, darker black fruits on the palate and an amazingly silky texture. With 12 months in oak, it also displays wonderful spice notes of roasted coffee and toasted coconut.
