Meursault Domaine Sylvain Bzikot 2023
Sylvain Bzikot Meursault is a brilliantly full and rich Chardonnay made from a blend of nine separate parcels of wine. Sylvain vinifies in a mixture of stainless steel and new oak barrels before ageing for 14 months in oak barrel. This may sound excessive, but the result is an opulent expression of Chardonnay with a magical balance between fruit, oak and acidity. Pineapple, peach, honeysuckle, lemon and hazelnuts dominate from the start but the wine finishes with lovely, elegant note. It’s a tropical and exotic wine with gentle spice and a long finish.
Domaine Sylvain Bzikot maybe one of the lesser-known names in Puligny Montrachet, but the quiet and reserved Sylvain lets his wines, rather than a PR machine do the talking. The Domaine was started by Sylvain’s grandfather, a Polish emigrant, who arrived in Puligny just before the 2nd World War with nothing but the clothes he stood up in. From those very humble beginnings this family Domaine has managed to acquire an impressive 4 hectares of some of the most valuable agricultural land in the world, namely Puligny-Montrachet and Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru. They own a further 9 hectares of “regional appellation” vineyards which produce Bourgogne Blanc, Aligoté and Bourgogne Pinot Noir.
