Gilbert Picq’s Vieilles Vignes (Old Vines) Chablis comes predominately from two parcels of 70+ year old vines situated on a high plateau across from the 1er Cru vineyard of Vaucoupin. It is a full on wine which is powerful and extremely tropical for Chablis with apricot, tangerine and passionfruit flavours busting from the glass.
Brothers Didier and Pascal Picq (sons of Gilbert), run this high quality 13 hectare estate which is based in the small village of Chichée, 3km south of the town of Chablis. Didier is the winemaker and Pascal takes care of the vineyards. They are working towards gaining organic certification with the use of sulphur kept to a minimum and only natural yeasts used. They use no oak, with all fermentation and ageing carried out in stainless steel. Their wines have always impressed us, age gracefully in bottle and offer an opulent style that still retains freshness and characteristic minerality.
