Dr Loosen “Red Slate” Riesling is a lovely dry wine produced with fruit sourced from estate-owned vineyards planted on red slate soils in the villages of Erden and Ürzig. It has an intense minerality that is warm and enveloping, with a floral, spicy, citrus blossom aroma and a harmonious palate. The dry style is ideal for classic continental cuisine. It provides an excellent entry to German Riesling.
Dr. Loosen has been owned and run by the Loosen family for over 200 years. Current owner Ernest Loosen has been in charge since 1988 and has overseen a reduction in crop size, a move away from chemical fertilisation and a minimalist intervention philosophy to the winemaking. The estate produces a wide selection of wines including six Grand Cru wines.
