Domaine Vincent Bouzereau Meursault Rouge 2023
Domaine Vincent Bouzereau Meursault Rouge comes from an old plot of vines next to Volnay Santenots. While the region is better known for white wine, this is fabulous and elegant Pinot Noir with sweet raspberry, redcurrant and strawberry, complimented by notes of cinnamon and clove and lovely fine-grained tannins and super sappy acidity.
Ailen and Vincent Bouzereau come from a long line of Burgundian wine makers and merchants, whose roots can be traced back to the 16th Century. Based in the heart of Meursault, they cultivate 18 hectares of biodynamically farmed vines across the Côte de Beaune. Their vineyards are developed using massal selection, a traditional method that involves replanting with the finest cuttings from existing vines rather than using clones. Vincent is easily one of the most energetic and intense wine makers I have ever met. His enthusiasm is infectious and tasting with him is a full on, strap-yourself-in, rollercoaster ride. His wines are rich, intense and terroir driven and are a delightful sensory experience. They are everything that is great about Burgundy and I always end up skipping out of the winery!
All Bouzereau’s wines are from plots that are a minimum of 40 years old. They are hand harvested, vinified with indigenous yeasts and then aged in wood for a minimum of 12 months on fine lees, with little to zero filtration before bottling. Across the board, they are generous and pure, with great depth and complexity and are a joy to drink, even when youthful.
