Chateau Mauvesin Barton 2019 Moulis
Chateau Mauvesin Barton 2019 is a beautifully elegant yet rich and structured wine with dark red fruit dominating, strawberry notes, red plum and wonderfully integrated oak notes. Fresh graphite and more savoury notes of tobacco leaf and leather come through on the palate along with touched of coffee. The wine is blend of 64% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Cabernet Franc. It is in a fantastic place right now but will continue to develop in bottle.
Chateau Mauvesin was purchased by the Barton family (Leoville and Langoa Barton) in 2011 and rather than renaming it, they added their name, double barrel style, to created Chateau Mauvesin Barton. The vineyards sit in the Moulis-en-Medoc region which is a small sub region within the wider Haut-Medoc, located between and west of Saint Julien to the north and Margaux to the south. It’s a region which produces long lived wines with great structure. A region for Bordeaux purists or, like me, Bordeaux lovers that love a bargain!
