I’ve tasted several vintages of this wine but always just after bottling when the wine is too young and tight. I was delighted to be offered a parcel of the more forward 2015 just in time for Christmas. The Chateau is owned by the Despagne family and compromises 5 hectares of 60 year old vines made up 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Château sits on the border with St Emilion, on gravelly sandy soil which brings elegance, typicality and freshness to the wine. The 2015 is showing some lovely earthy aromas along with tobacco flavours under the delicious ripe red and black fruit.
