Chateau Cantemerle 2010 is a star buy from this fabled vintage. A rich and brooding wine with typical black and red fruit notes along with humidor and cigar box smells in the background. The wine has a herbal quality with bay leaves and richer mulberry fruit on the palate.
Chateau Cantemerle is a 5th growth Bordeaux estate located in a lovely woodland setting just outside the village of Macau north of the city of Bordeaux itself. Although the estate has a long history, with evidence of grape growing being traced back to the 13th century, it was nearly missed off the 1855 classification due to no one knowing about its quality. Prior to 1855, the entire production was sold to the Dutch and it was only by luck that the wine was offered to the Place de Bordeaux in 1854 bringing it to the attention of the powers that be. The wines remain good value and have improved dramatically in quality over recent years.
