Chateau Batailley 2015
Chateau Batailley 2015 is an excellent effort from this ever-improving estate. It is made from a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot. It is medium bodied and has an intense nose of cassis, red fruit, classic cedar and a beautiful pepper spice. Brilliant balance, structure and will only get better with age.
Chateau Batailley is a 5th Cru Classe estate based in the Pauillac region of Bordeaux. The vineyard sits on a plateau to the west of Chateau Mouton Rothschild and is owned by the Casteja family who are like Bordeaux royalty. Philippe Casteja now runs the estate and has overseen a period of change that has seen the wines move from good quality, reliable clarets to wines of more serious quality that have complexity, finesse and fantastic purity of fruit.
