Chablis 1er Cru Vosgros Gilbert Picq comes from two south west facing parcels totalling 3.5 acres. The wine has a lovely weight to it which is a pleasant surprise given the pretty, elegant nose of citrus, white flower and pepper. It is an understated and complex wine than continues to develop in the glass with real class.
Brothers Didier and Pascal Picq (sons of Gilbert), run this high quality 13 hectare estate which is based in the small village of Chichée, 3km south of the town of Chablis. Didier is the winemaker and Pascal takes care of the vineyards. They are working towards gaining organic certification with the use of sulphur kept to a minimum and only natural yeasts used. They use no oak, with all fermentation and ageing carried out in stainless steel. Their wines have always impressed us, age gracefully in bottle and offer an opulent style that still retains freshness and characteristic minerality.
