Bodegas Godeval 'Cepas Vellas' Godello 2021
Bodegas Godeval 'Cepas Vellas' Godello is a rich and texture Godello made from Godeval’s oldest vineyards and then aged for five months on its lees before release. The tangy citrus and tropical fruit is given an extra boost from the lees aging which brings added texture and depth of flavour. This is a smart wine which is approachable, complex and really enjoyable.
Bodegas Godeval was founded in 1986 in the Galician appellation of Valdeorras in northwest Spain. Production is focused solely on the Godello grape which thrives here in south facing vineyards planted on Ordovicicas slate soils. The vineyards benefit from an Atlantic influence and a more continental climate which helps produce a style of wine that is fresh and aromatic but complex and rich.
The winery was established in the old medieval Monastery in Xagoaza and has now been completely renovated into a modern winery that has grown from producing 18,000 bottles in the late 80’s to 200,000 bottles today. The whole project started in the 80’s with the aim of reviving the Godello grape. They have done more than revive it, they have established it as one of Spain’s great white grape varieties. These are wines of immense class that combine weight and texture with saline freshness and are one of the best examples of the Godello grape variety.
