Marco Porello ‘Mommiano’ Barbera d’Alba is an invigorating, luscious and electrifying wine that is as comforting as it is brilliant. Barbera is prone to very high levels of acidity but Marco picks his fruit well into the autumn in order to allow the fruit to fully ripen and the acidity levels to drop. It is a generous and full bodied wine with jam like fruit, blackcurrant, plum and liquorice spice notes. Its real beauty is its versatility, perfect on its own, wonderful with traditional Italian food but also roast red meat.

Marco Porello is a 3rd generation winemaker who took over the family vineyards in 1994. Based in the sandy hills of Roero, north-west of Alba, Marco and his family have been quietly crafting outstanding wines made from the area’s famous native grape varieties. The winery is situated in Canale, north of the town of Alba. It is also here that the vineyards for the Barbera grapes are located on south west facing, medium density soils with a good degree of clay content which allows for excellent drainage. The Arneis and Nebbiolo vineyards are located south of Canale in Vezza d’Alba on mineral rich soils which gives the wines a rich aroma. These are extremely well crafted wines that deliver amazing enjoyment at good prices.
