Product Details
Atamisque ‘Catalpa’ Malbec is a beautifully elegant Malbec with incredibly well-defined fruit character of blackberries and attractive sweet oak aromas of coffee, tobacco, black jelly babies and fragrant violets. 50% of the wine is aged for 12 months in new French oak, the other half in stainless steel so the oak does not overpower the fruit and helps create a complex, bold, voluptuous, structured wine that is immediately appealing. Most of the fruit comes from the very special 70-year-old vines in the cool sub-district of La Consulta which is 1200 meters above sea level. Superb with grilled red meat and sinking into the sofa with.

Bodegas Atamisque is located in the district of San Jose in Tupungato in Argentina’s Uco Valley. The winery, which also encompasses a golf course, guest accommodation, a tasty restaurant and a trout farm, is owned by Frenchman John Du Monceau and his wife Chantal, whose grandfather was a winemaker in Burgundy. The couple’s French elegance shines through in the wines which all have great purity, finesse and fruit character, especially the Serbal range which is unoaked. Malbec is the obvious star but the Cabernet Franc is one of the finest examples we’ve tasted. They have no desire to be a big winery and believe in quality over volume which is why they only use fruit from their own estate owned vineyards.
