Aniello 006 Pinot Noir 2022
Aniello 006 Pinot Noir is busting with lovely summer red fruits, floral notes, tinned strawberry and a beautiful earthy note that adds a superb level of complexity. 30% of the fruit is fermented in whole bunches in small concrete tanks and a little oak is used which results in a wine with great freshness and aromatics. The bright fruit, which is not at all jammy, really shines through but there is a little earthy, almost rustic note which elevates the wine to the next level.
Aniello is a relatively small and new venture headed up by Maria Cruz de Angelis and super talented young wine maker Eugenia Ferrera. The winery, originally built in 1927, has been completely renovated and restored and the vineyards still contain pre-phylloxera Malbec vines which contribute an extra dimension to these amazing wines. The winery is situated near the little town of Mainque in the Upper Rio Negro Valley and has a special energy about it. Mendoza Malbec is all the rage but here in the greener region of Patagonia there is a youthfulness and freshness about the people and the wines. They do not live in the shadow of the Andes and Mendoza but have carved out a unique expression which is the modern face of Argentinean wine.
