Aniello 006 Malbec 2022
Aniello 006 Malbec is an amazingly fresh and intense Malbec from the Patagonia region in southern Argentina. It is dark in colour and has lovely aromatics and herb notes which are beautifully intermingled with the dark red and cassis fruit. Patagonia is south of Mendoza and although cooler, the region is closer to sea level at only 600 meters (I say only!). This helps to produce wines with more finesse and elegance which are unique and possess astonishing aromatics. This is modern Malbec.
Aniello is a relatively small and new venture headed up by Maria Cruz de Angelis and super talented young wine maker Eugenia Ferrera. The winery, originally built in 1927, has been completely renovated and restored and the vineyards still contain pre-phylloxera Malbec vines which contribute an extra dimension to these amazing wines. The winery is situated near the little town of Mainque in the Upper Rio Negro Valley and has a special energy about it. Mendoza Malbec is all the rage but here in the greener region of Patagonia there is a youthfulness and freshness about the people and the wines. They do not live in the shadow of the Andes and Mendoza but have carved out a unique expression which is the modern face of Argentinean wine.
