Product Details

Vignobles Jean Sorge are home to the cru bourgeois Château Deyrem-Valentin and its little sister, Château Soussans. The estates nestle between two grands crus classés and date back to 1730. Christelle Sorge is now in charge and she continues on a path of tradition married with innovation to provide wines of ever increasing quality to lovers of Margaux everywhere.

Vineyard & location:

The Margaux appellation consists of five different villages and Vignobles Jean Sorge are in one of these, the village of Soussans. The soil conists of deep gravel. 13 hectares are dedicated to Deyrem-Valentin, 2 to Soussans and both are planted at a density of 10,000 vines per hectare.

Harvest, vinification & ageing:

At Deyrem Valentin, a lot of work is done in the vineyard to promote ripening: deleafing, removal of secondary shoots etc. The grapes are picked by hand and there are two sorting operations, one in the vineyard and one at the winery. Vinfication includes cold maceration, pumping over for aeration and cap-punching. Fermentation is carried out at 28-30°C. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, one third of which are renewed each year.

Deyrem Valentin is a blend of 50% Merlot, 48% Cab. Sauvignon,1% Petit Verdot, 1% Carménère. Dark fruits on the nose (black cherries and plums) and is characterised by well-intgerated oak in the mouth that gives rise to notes of chocolate and coffee.
